Where Theatre Meets Gastronomy – Unique Cultural Experiences at Twentysix Budapest

What happens when a flavour brings back a forgotten memory, a love story unfolds through a three-course dinner, or a theatre performance sparks conversations that last long into the evening?

At Twentysix Budapest, cultural experiences go beyond the traditional stage. Here, theatre, gastronomy, music and storytelling come together to create something truly memorable.

Located in the heart of Budapest, at 26 Király Street, Twentysix offers a distinctive setting where art meets culinary creativity. From spontaneous theatrical performances inspired by personal memories to literary love stories brought to life through food, each event invites guests to experience culture from a different perspective.

If you’re looking for unique things to do in Budapest, discover a world where stories are not only told and performed, but sometimes even tasted.

Gastronomic Theatre – Where Memories Become Edible Art

Some flavours have an extraordinary power. A single taste can transport us back to a childhood summer, a family gathering, a familiar place or a moment we thought we had forgotten.

But what if these memories could become the starting point for an entire theatrical performance?

This is the concept behind the unique Gastronomic Theatre experiences at Twentysix Budapest.

Each evening begins with four different flavour-inspired memories, opening the door to deeply personal stories and unexpected emotions.

As the stories unfold, actor Péter Bárnai and cellist Gábor Gergő Sipos respond spontaneously through theatrical interpretation, literature and live music.

Nothing is entirely scripted. Every artistic response is shaped by what happens in that very moment.

Meanwhile, renowned Hungarian chef Ákos Sárközi transforms these memories into a spectacular gastronomic creation, building an edible artwork almost four metres long.

By the end of the evening, guests are invited not only to admire the finished masterpiece but also to taste it.

Lia Pokorny – A Journey Through Memories and Flavours

What flavours hold the most meaningful memories for Lia Pokorny? Which tastes bring back important people, places and moments from her life?

During this extraordinary evening, interviewer Nóra Réti explores the actress’s personal stories through four carefully chosen flavour memories.

Rather than following a traditional interview format, the conversation unfolds naturally, allowing unexpected emotions and forgotten experiences to emerge.

Péter Bárnai and Gábor Gergő Sipos respond to these stories with spontaneous theatrical and musical interpretations, while Ákos Sárközi transforms the atmosphere, emotions and colours of each memory into an edible artistic composition.

The result is an intimate, unpredictable and multisensory experience that can never be recreated in exactly the same way.

Dorka Gryllus – When Personal Stories Come to Life

Another special Gastronomic Theatre evening places the memories of celebrated Hungarian actress Dorka Gryllus at the centre of the experience.

Guided by interviewer Petra Ténai, the conversation begins with four distinct flavour memories, each opening a window into the actress’s personal world.

As the stories unfold, Péter Bárnai and Gábor Gergő Sipos transform them into spontaneous theatrical and musical moments.

At the same time, Ákos Sárközi creates a spectacular edible artwork inspired by the emotions, colours, textures and atmosphere of the stories.

The evening becomes a shared creative journey where storytelling, theatre, music and gastronomy merge into one extraordinary experience.

What to Know About the Gastronomic Tasting Experience

Tickets for these Gastronomic Theatre performances include the opportunity to taste Ákos Sárközi’s impressive edible creation.

However, the tasting is not intended to replace a full dinner. Instead, it offers guests the chance to explore a variety of flavours, textures and culinary interpretations.

Due to the artistic nature and scale of the performance, the tasting takes place as a shared experience rather than an individually plated meal. Guests gather around the completed artwork and serve themselves directly from the creation.

Please note that special dietary requirements, including allergen-free meals and other dietary restrictions, cannot be accommodated during this experience.

Drinks and any additional food orders are not included in the ticket price and are charged separately.

Héjanász – The Passionate Love Story of Ady and Léda Through Theatre and Gastronomy

Can a love story have a flavour? And what would the passionate, complicated relationship between Hungarian poet Endre Ady and his muse Léda taste like?

HÉJANÁSZ – Ady. Léda. Paris. brings one of Hungarian literature’s most fascinating love stories to life through an extraordinary combination of theatre and gastronomy.

The staged reading explores nine defining years of Endre Ady’s life, from 1903 to 1912, when his relationship with Adél Brüll, known as Léda, profoundly influenced both his personal life and his poetry.

Their story unfolds across Paris, the French Riviera, Budapest and Nagyvárad, against a backdrop of passion, distance, jealousy, artistic inspiration and emotional turmoil.

Rather than focusing solely on their private relationship, the performance explores how these experiences shaped one of the most significant bodies of work in Hungarian poetry.

A Three-Course Dinner Inspired by the Story

What makes this production especially distinctive is the gastronomic experience created by chef Ákos Sárközi.

A carefully conceived three-course dinner becomes an integral part of the theatrical narrative.

Each dish reflects the atmosphere, emotions and dramatic development of the story, using ingredients, flavours and textures to evoke different aspects of Ady and Léda’s relationship.

The culinary experience is not simply an accompaniment to the performance. It offers another way to interpret and emotionally connect with the story.

The Gastronomic Theatre adaptation preserves the original production directed by Olga Szederkényi as its central theatrical element, while introducing additional artistic and culinary layers.

Cast:

  • Endre Ady – Péter Bárnai
  • Léda – Lia Pokorny
  • Narrator – Tamás Ivanics

Written and directed by: Olga Szederkényi
Co-director: András Surányi
Video and sound: Richárd Kiss
Gastronomic Concept: Ákos Sárközi

The original production was created in collaboration between KuglerArt Salon and CAFe Budapest.
